Martina Phillips - Camera Operator
Martina was born and raised in Prague, Czech Republic. Her formative years were spent in defiance of a Communist regime as an activist and actress in the underground resistance in the arts, theater, and movies as well as protesting and marching in the streets. During this time, she acted in film and theater, co-wrote a play, toured with a rock band, and danced on a table top with a future president.
Later she decided to work on the other side of the camera as a production manager. She produced commercials for clients like Visa, Procter and Gamble, Unilever, Mattoni water, and worked on documentaries for RCN Network and CNN. She also helped with Rolling Stones musician Ronnie Wood’s art exhibition in Prague.
Seeking new adventures she decided to travel abroad to study English and computer graphics in Berkeley. After returning to Czech she worked as a financial director for the largest Czech owned advertising agency. Finally moving back to San Francisco she worked as a business/finance manager at a dot.com during the internet bubble.
She is currently freelancing and helping with feature film financing projects and concert tours.
Moving to Portland and stumbling upon PDX Spotlight has been another new adventure and she is enjoying meeting local musicians and working with a great crew of talented people.
When she is not filming, she is standing on her head doing yoga, tending to her beehives, and raising two precocious young daughters.
